M&D and more birds

I heard from M&D this evening. They saw an eagles nest but more impressively they saw a caracara bird. It is aparently pretty rare and they were happy to finally see one.

They have also been able to watch American Idol. I guess they have a TV in their camper. Their really roughing it though having to rely on broadcast television.

M&D in Southern Florida

I talked to Dad today. They are in southern Florida right now and are still doing okay.

Dad said that they have started having trouble finding camp grounds that are open. Apparently, a lot of them closed because of hurricane damage, fallen trees and the like. I really hadn't thought that a camp ground would be affected by a hurricane but it makes sense.

Just so you don't have to stay awake tonight worrying about where M&D will be staying, they did find an open camp ground. It doesn't have any amenities but since we've already made all our smelly parent joke here, they have nothing to lose.

One front tooth

mwz really wanted me to post so there would be someone else posting. He is hoping this will encourage others to jump on the posting bandwagon.

So, I'm writing to say that on Saturday January 15th our baby got her first tooth. It's one sharp little tooth too, on the bottom left. No signs of the one on the right side yet. Maybe I'll post again when that one comes in.

In other news, the University of Iowa football team apparently has one of the best recruiting classes in the country. We're happy about that.

M & D Update

I just talked to Mom and Dad. They are okay. They saw a crocodile and some birds.

Here are a couple stories to pass on.

A few days ago M & D went on a snorkeling trip. I thought that was a very un-M&D thing to do but I digress. So the day started out nicely with a 2 hour catamaran cruise to get to the location. Then there was some snorkeling, which I think they enjoyed. Unfortunately, on the way back the weather was not as nice. They had to contend with 7 foot waves. Coming from the middle of a continent, Mom's stomach was not prepared for this and she spent the rest of the evening sick. She said that when they got back to their camper, it felt like the whole thing was swaying.

I believe she felt fine the next day.

So you don't think that Mom's not tough, aparently last night she scraped her elbow and didn't notice until she woke up in a pool of blood. Well, maybe not a pool but they didn't specify so it could have been a pool. She initially blamed Dad (who to prove his manliness, cut the back of his hand the night before) because she didn't know how tough she was.

They tell me that they are having a wonderful time, although I have the above anectdotal evidence to prove contrary. They really do like birds though.

New Poster

Excellent. Johnny posted. Now I don't feel so alone.

I heard form M & D a couple days ago and they were fine except their camp ground didn't have a shower. Not even a cold one. (Insert smelly parent joke here).

Everything is fine here. Our first born is finally starting going to sleep in her own bed. She sleeps for a couple hours before waking us up and making Arial feed her.

Well thats all for now.

M & D in Florida now and RSS/ATOM feed

I just talked to Mom and Dad and they are currently in Florida. Not really much to add to that. They say that it is warm but I kinda expected that.

On a side note, the ATOM feed (which is similar to an RSS feed) can be gotten at http://folte.blogspot.com/atom.xml . For those of us using RSS readers, this is useful information.

Ground rules

Okay, so since I set this thing up, I'm going to give some suggestions for making this blog useful and safe. Since personal information tends to get written on blogs and the whole world can see, lets be a little careful about what we reveal to the world. This is not email.

SAFETY:
1. Do NOT post the names or ages of children in our family. If you must refer to them, use a psuedonym. This is to protect them from online preditors.

2. Since the name of the blog gives our last name, it might be a good idea not to use our real first names for posting. I for instance post with the name mwz (or maybe mwz444, I forget).

3. Do NOT reveal anything that you wouldn't tell your neighbors.

OTHER:
4. Please only post things that you are the original author of. If you find something you want to comment on, cite the source and quote it. If it is large, post a link and comment. If you don't have anything to add, I don't care about it. I only care about you.

Okay that's about all the paranoia and control mongering that I want to exhibit right now.

UPDATE:
Since the name of the blog no longer contains our last name, we can be a little more liberal with our first names, I guess. But still be aware that you are posting to the internet.

Welcome Folte Family

Hello,

The purpose of this blog is to give my immediate family a place to post things for the world (but more specifically, the whole family) can see. I am going to try to give posting rights to my parents and my siblings (and any siblings' spouses who ask for it).
